The Magna Carta is June 15th Drink of the Day!!
After two unsuccessful wars in France and the hatred of most of the Barons in England, King John had no other choice. The Magna Carta needed to be written. In 1215, in a meadow called Ronimed, between Windsor and Staines, England, he sealed this document that states that no “freeman” could be punished except through the law of the land, meaning that the King himself was limited to his powers. This document is considered the first of many human constitutions and influenced others such as our United States Constitution.
Today, constitutional law in England is based on many of what is said in this document. As much of a tyrant as he was back in his day, he started something with this that would change the thought of the way dictatorship was looked at and gave freedoms to those who would otherwise not have any rights whatsoever. For this, I have dedicated the drink of the day to this history-changing event. I have found a drink that bears the name of this document. I found it on Helium.com, written by Caroline Sumner on August 19, 2010. Sometimes, the combination of ingredients will send shrills down your spine. Tasting it will change and even open your mind to try combinations you would have never thought possible.
The Magna Carta
1 oz. Tequila
1/2 oz. Triple Sec
Champagne or Sparkling Wine
Superfine Sugar
Wedge of Lime
Method: Take the lime wedge and rub it around the rim of a champagne flute to wet. Dip the rim of the glass into some superfine sugar, coating the rim. Take the tequila and triple sec and pour them into a shaker glass with ice. Stir until you feel you have a good cold blend, then strain it into the sugar-rimmed flute. Top off the glass with champagne or sparkling wine. Take the lime wedge and squeeze it over the drink, discarding the wedge after doing so.
