The Old Fashioned is January 10th Drink of the Day!
This is the granddaddy of them all in regards to American Cocktails. It was the first to be printed and described as a cocktail in a Hudson, New York publication way back in 1806. It has evolved into what it is today and is made differently depending on where you are in the country.
In Wisconsin, for example, the common way to make this is with brandy and a splash of lemon-lime soda. I’m going to show you my way. Again, with the new wave of traditional mixologists out there trying to bring back the old-style cocktails, this could be enough to cause a stir. However, I am one to believe that there’s a reason things evolve into what they are. Plus, even the traditionalists change things around from time to time, (though they will never admit that).
The video’s a little outdated, but it will give you what you need to know to make one of these classics at home!

To me, this is the first, last and only word on constructing an OF:

Of course, as Chris states in the video, there are hundreds of ways to make this drink.
Here’s my take:

Chris does a great job! Keep in mind, the only correct way to make a drink is the way that will most satisfy the one drinking it. All Chris, I, and the other bartenders doing how-to videos are doing is giving you a foundation to work from. It is up to you, the consumer, to tinker with it to get it where you enjoy every drop of it.
