The Oscar Wilde Cocktail is November 30th Drink of the Day!!
Oscar Wilde was an interesting character, one who was quick witted and at the same time short wicked. The latter would be the end of him. Trying to get the father of his lover imprisoned for libel, another word for defamation of character, which called for a two year prison sentence, he was almost successful. However, some of the skeletons in Mr. Wilde’s closet came out in the court during the hearing, which made him drop his case. It was too late. The tables were turned on him and he would be the one to do hard labor for two years. His sexual ways with other men did not sit well with the court. Due to this, this once charming and intellectual individual would flee for France after doing his time behind bars, where he would die three years later broke and destitute. This was in 1900 when he was only 46 years of age!
Prior to the above, he was considered one of the most exciting and extravagant personalities in his day. He would write many poems and short stories that would show his true wit and his enthusiasm with life. It’s a shame we had to lose such a big personality. Who knows how many more masterpieces would have been brought to us. Alas, this is why we must remember this mournful day. This Irish writer would have enjoyed this easy- to- make cocktail. I know you will too. An after-dinner choice for those who enjoy a nice and creamy vibation. Cheers!
