To commemorate the day that women sufferagists marched to the Capitol Building to fight for the right to vote, this day in 1913, I felt it appropriate to introduce to you a classic that was made for the female to enjoy during Prohibition.

Getting it’s pink hue from the grenadine and its velvety feel from the egg white, it was probably originally made to hide the taste of bad gin, due to not being able to acquire the good stuff. With “Bath Tub Gin” being common during the 20s and 30s, people were looking for a way for their drinks to be palatable, giving us some of these drinks. It is believed this is where this particular drink originated.

This is another one of those drinks where egg whites are used to give the drink a smooth texture. If you feel uncomfortable drinking raw egg whites, just leave it out. However, it gives the drink a nice feel that you may not want to miss out on.

The Pink Lady
1 1/2 oz. Plymouth Gin
1/2 oz. Applejack
1/2 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
1/2 oz. Grenadine
1 Egg White

Method: Combine ingredients in a shaker without ice and shake for about 20 seconds. Fill shaker with ice and shake some more. Strain into a cocktail glass.
