The origins of one of the first superstar canines is in itself unique enough to make it today’s story for the Drink of the Day. However, the drink itself is a very strong one, and I must suggest that you may want to half the ingredients of the booze and keep the tonic water volume the same when making this drink, so you can stay somewhat coherent when enjoying this. I will share the original recipe with you. At least I have given you some advanced warning of its potency.
The original Rin Tin Tin was found at five days old on this date in 1918 in a kennel, along with his sister Nannette, in Lorraine which was at the time part of the German Empire by American serviceman Lee Duncan. He had named the puppies after puppets the children of France would give to the soldiers for good luck. Lee brought back Rin Tin Tin, with Nannette dying before he came back. Little did he know at that time that this dog would star in twenty-three films. Legend has it that he would die in the arms of actress Jean Harlow at the age of thirteen. There have been several Rin Tin Tins that would follow him, with the popularity of this German Sheppard growing more and more up through the 1950s.

To celebrate this megastar’s birthday, here is the potent drink I spoke of earlier. Please, know your own limits when drinking this.

Rin Tin Tin Cocktail

3oz. Gin
1 oz. Jagermeister Herbal Liqueur
2 oz. Tonic Water

Method: Fill a highball glass halfway with ice. Pour the vodka, gin, Jagermeister into the glass and stir. Top off with tonic water.
