The Route 66 Cocktail is June 27th Drink of the Day!!
It would be a sad day on this day back in 1985 when U.S. Route 66 was decommisioned by the United States Highway Service. Due to the Interstate Highway System being erected, US Routes such as this one became obsolete. To save money, many of the US Routes would have the same fate. Today, only portions of this legendary route that spanned from Chicago to Los Angelas covering over 2,400 miles, has become tourist attractions.
The decommision of this highway was June 27, 1985. To remember this day, I’ve found a drink that’s just as sweet as this highway once was and makes for a great summertime drink with friends.
The Route 66
3/4 oz. Vodka
3/4 oz. Gin
Pineapple Juice
Orange Juice
Lemonade
Method: In a collins glass filled with ice, pour in the gin and vodka to measured quantities. Top off the drink by adding equal parts of pineapple juice, orange juice, and lemonade. Pour the ice and ingredients into a shaker glass. Cap with a shaker tin and shake well. Strain into a fresh collins glass with ice. Garnish with an orange wedge and Maraschino cherry.
