The Silver Balloon is June 5th Drink of the Day!!
It always floors me to look back at some events that have happened in human history and see that not many years have gone by since our first flight, the invention of the automobile, etc. Who would have thought that just 229 years ago, the first hot-air balloon flight was viewed as a huge accomplishment, and it wasn’t even a manned flight! Does it not amaze you that in just this period of time we have come so far technologically? It just blows me away!
Talk about blowing me away, these two French brothers, Jacques and Joseph Montgolfier had their first balloon flight demonstration. The balloon successfully stayed aloft for ten minutes and traveled about two kilometers. Part of the people in attendance for this huge event was King Louis XVI of France and his wonderful wife, Marie Antoinette. After the successful test flight, the King was so impressed that Joseph and Jacques’ father, Pierre was elevated to nobility. A successful flight with a person would eventually happen less than a year later.
To celebrate this important, yet less talked about event in our history, I’ve found a drink that will lift your spirits and have you walking on clouds. Note to reader: Do not attempt to fly a hot-air balloon after drinking a couple of these!
