The Sitting Bull Fizz is July 20th Drink of the Day!!
Sitting Bull was a Chief for one of the Sioux Tribes of the Dakota Territory. He was also a very respected chief for all the tribes in this region due to having put up camp for those who felt they needed a safe-haven. Sitting Bull believed that they would have better chances to succeed as a people if they were to grow in masses. Many renagade tribes would come and rest and even permanently stay to ensure their safety against their biggest enemy, the white man, who were now coming in the area in masses. The US Government was beginning to take up more land and would even find excuses to go against their agreements with the local tribes.
It all came to a head at the Battle of Little Big Horn. Even though it’s believed he wasn’t involved in the actual battle, he is believed that Sitting Bull was one of the ones who planned the attack on Lt. Col Custer and the 7th Calvalry. Sitting Bull would hide out in Canada for a few years after this event until finally turning himself in to the Federal Troops on this day in 1881.
Sitting Bull would live for another decade, traveling with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show for several years to earn a living. Sitting Bull would end up getting killed during a tribal celebration by an Indian agent in South Dakota. It was a sad ending to a fine man who only wanted his people to keep what they fought so hard for, only to be given less and less.
Though this date is a day where the Government won against him, it gives me the opportunity to mention this great human being. He stood for the things we should all stand for: Freedom, Justice, and Honor. For that reason I chose this to be the drink of the day. The Sitting Bull Fizz was originally published in a book entitled, “The Flowing Book”, written by William Schmidt in 1892. The recipe that I will be sharing with you was a current reformulation by a gentleman named Ethan on his blogsite, www.boulderlibation.blogspot.com. I must admit, there is a lot of flavor notes that jump at you, and at the same time, quenches your thirst while enjoying. This is definately a summer-time beverage for all you of age whiskey drinkers.
