The Sloe Gin Fizz is February 29th Drink of the Day!!
On this day, in 1960, the first Playboy Club was opened in Chicago. By the end of 1961, it was considered the most visited night club in the world, when over 135,000 people came through the doors in the last quarter of that year. Hugh Hefner had something going that would make him the most envied man in America, and quite possibly the world.
Since it’s been twenty years since the last club closed its doors for good, I’d like to take us back to the glory days of these places by introducing a drink that was quite common in those times. The Sloe Gin Fizz is a nice and refreshing way to enjoy the ride back to the days of the nightclubs. The recipe for this drink was printed in July 1961. I found it on Gourmet.com’s website.
Sloe Gin Fizz
2 oz. Sloe Gin
Juice of 1/2 Lemon
1/2 tsp. Granulated Sugar
Soda
Method: Place ingredients, except the soda into a shaker 1/3 full of crushed ice. Shake well and pour everything, including ice, into a highball glass. Top with soda water and stir.
