Mickey Mantle, most will tell you, was the best switch hitter baseball has ever seen. He hit for power on both sides of the plate and still holds the major league record for walk-off homeruns with thirteen, (tied with Jim Thome). He played eighteen years in the pros, all with the New York Yankees. He was AL’s MVP three times, was part of seven World Series Championships, won a Gold Glove, won the Triple Crown in 1956, played in twenty All-Star games (the all star game was played twice in 1959 and 1960), and was inducted on the first ballot to the Baseball Hall-of-Fame in 1974. He is recognized as being one of baseball’s greatest players of all time, being elected on the 20th Century All-Century Team in 1999.

Today is Mickey Mantle’s Birthday. To celebrate, I want to introduce a drink I found that has the same name as the team he played for during his major-league career. Another gin based drink, this one I’m sure Mickey would have probably tried during his heyday.

Yankee Cocktail
2 1/4 oz. Gin
3/4 oz. Orange Flavored Brandy
Splash of Orange Juice

Method: Pour all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Shake well, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
