The Garlic Mustard Cocktail is February 15th Drink of the Day!
Benjamin Franklin is the man responsible for introducing mustard to the United States, advertising it for the very first time on this date back in 1758. In remembrance of this joyous day, I would like to introduce to you the most interesting cocktail that we’ve had for our drink of the day to date, The Garlic Mustard Cocktail!
This drink was introduced during the 2011 Garlic Mustard Challenge. I have yet to know who came up with this, or who found the time to come up with it. But, I wanted to show you that there are no boundries when it comes to making some unique drinks! This one will take some time. Plus, I am introducing how to make Creme de Moutard, which can come in handy when creating your own drinks down the road.
How to make Creme de Moutard:
1. Place one cup of cleaned garlic mustard leaves into one cup of grain alcohol and allow it to sit for 18 hours, then strain and set to the side.
2. Chop one cup of garlic mustard roots, top with one cup of water and slowly bring to a simmer without boiling. Add one cup of granulated sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Let cool for one hour and strain.
3. Combine the alcohol infusion and the syrup and allow the combination to sit overnight to give it time to marry together.
Voila!!! Creme de Moutard!
