The Mozart Cocktail is July 26th Drink of the Day!!

Born just six months prior to the death of his father, the well-known composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Xavier Wolfgang Mozart would have success in music himself. However, due to his self-afflicting criticisms and not wanting to be known only as his father’s son, he probably didn’t do himself many favors. Known in his own right as a great composer to piano and chamber music that you can still find today, Franz would not compose a piece of music the last fifteen years of his life. Instead, he became more of a teacher. He would die of stomach cancer in 1844.

To give him his due, I felt it just enough to remember his day of birth by introducing a drink of the day that is probably named after his father. However, today I am going to hand this over to him. Happy Birthday Franz!

The Mozart Cocktail
1 1/2 oz. Anejo Rum (Anejo is an old Spanish word meaning “aged”).
1/2 oz. Sweet Vermouth
Splash of Triple Sec
2 Dashes Orange Bitters

Method: Pour all ingredients into a shaker glass filled half-way with ice. Stir well, then strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a twist of lemon.
