Here is a cocktail that defines simple.  In fact, one has to wonder why someone would take the time to name a cocktail that is so simple.  Well, let’s see…..we have the Cape Codder, which is nothing but vodka and cranberry, the Greyhound which is vodka and grapefruit; add a little salt on the rim to make it a salty dog and, honestly, I can go on and on.  It doesn’t have to be a difficult cocktail to make it one that can stand the test of time.  Besides the two that I have just mentioned, the original gin martini, probably one of the most recognized cocktails in the world to this day, is quite simple.  It all comes down to what you get out of it when you are drinking it.

The Palmer Cocktail, today’s choice as the Drink of the Day, is in that realm of simple put-together cocktails.  However, you will get a lot out of it due to the flavor notes of the rye whiskey that are enhanced once you rid yourself of the bite the whiskey has on its own.  If measured properly, you will get the full flavor of the rye without the bite, giving you much more out of the whiskey.

Juice from 1/2 of a Lemon

2 Dashes of Aromatic Bitters

Method:  In a mixing glass with ice, pour in the ingredients to measure.  Stir until you feel comfortable that all ingredients are blended.  Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
